When I was in 8th grade I was asked by the nuns to be Saint Nicholas for a church program thay day.  They had me dressed up with in the full bishop regalia.  I even had the staff and one of my then friends was my assistant.  At the end of the mass I was brought in to do a blessing and sit in the bishop's chair which was brought down off the altar.  As the grades filed out back to class I was supposed to give individual blessings.

When it got to the girls in 7th and 8th grade it got interesting.  The girls took turns sitting on my lap telling me what they wanted and where I should put it.  Mind you I was in church just feet from the altar and all of these were students from a Catholic school.  And there were nuns watching.

Billy Joel said Catholic girls start much too late.  I have no idea where he went to school but it wasn't Buffalo.

That's easy I want a good General Contractor to do the $250 million repair to my Fortress of Solitude.  And the money to do the repair.  I'll set up a nice apartment in the tower to overlook the city of Buffalo.

Blog EntryA Christmas Tradition explainedDec 19, '07 5:25 PM
for everyone
A Christmas Story for people having a bad day:

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce
toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the
Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which
stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were
about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out,
Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked,
the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a
shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elveshad drank
all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his fr ustration, he accidentally
dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glasspieces all over
the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had
eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door,
yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big
Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a
lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where do you want me to
stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas
tree.

This week's theme was provided by Blessed Rain . . . click here for her Multiply page and here for her Yahoo 360 page . . .

We are in the midst of the holiday season . . . and although the Christmas holiday and the legacy of Santa Claus have been the featured holiday, the Friday Five understands there are many other holidays celebrated around this time of year. There was no intention to omit any holiday or group from participating . . . many apologies.

Using Christmas only as an example of whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year . . . as a bonus to the five questions, talk about your holiday traditions, what they mean to you . . . whatever special memories you would like to share.

What are your five favorite Christmas songs or movies?

1. Charlie Brown Christmas

2. A Year Without A Santa

3. Santa Claus is Coming to Town

4. Scrouge  - The version with Albert Finney.  The ghost of Christmas Present sings really cool in that one

5. All of the Die Hard movies - Yes they are Christmas movies - watch them and see.

Traditions - Other then the arguments over spending too much on everyone and going to the inlaws we don't have a lot or tradtions.

If you would like to participate in the Friday 5:

Copy the questions and post your answers to your blog,

Leave a comment on the page at
The Friday Five @ 360
or The Friday Five @ Multiply to let others know your post is up so they can visit your blog..

You can participate at either page or both, the choice is yours.
