The new job.

The same job as before but less overtime for a while. So less money.

The new company is completely overwhelmed by what Circuit City wants. Projects that were planned before the change over were never mentioned. That means they are getting hit with schedule conflicts left and right. Several techs have quit around the country; some didn't make the transition. So we started overwhelmed with our workload and then people quit making it worse.

On Wednesday I got a call from the boss at 1:30 asking if I could go to New York city now. I have tons of family stuff planned all week. Jimmy has a ceremony at the convention center next Thursday plus other stuff. Instead they sent the Rochester tech. That means I get to cover his area until next week Saturday. Right now I'm covering from Erie, PA to Utica, NY about 5 hours apart with no traffic or constrution. Friday I was In Utica 3.5 hours away just to connect some cables, on the way back I find out they had another job to do that no one mentioned while I was there. I may have to go back next week.

I have it easy. There are techs with twice that work load every week due to all the missing techs. The new company has no burglar alarm experience; we fix the alarms. You can see the issues this brings up too.

Hopefully the new company will learn that they need to push back at these project and get some breathing room.

Fron the last time....

"So the new job starts Monday.  The past 2 weeks have bben a mess.  Days like today make me wonder why I stopped drinking.  Today we transfered inventory from our vans to the new vans with the new company.  This includes parts, tools and laptops.  This became a huge nightmare as all the legal questions were answered and then changed.  There was an open conference call running all day for all the questions.  I never listened in but I heard that most of the day I was the focus of part of the call.  That's what happens when you start early.  After I was done half the stuff was changed.  Either way I got done early.  Tomorrow I drop off the van and MOnday I get picked up to get the new van.  There was such a discussion on the legal over this.  We can't be in one van since we aren't an employee.  We can't be in the other van after 11:59 Sunday night.  So there ends up being multiple trips back and forth.

Monday the new jobs starts at the same place I've been for 9.5 years.  For NOW nothing changes."

So the new job started.  Day one was to get the new van and organize parts.  That was the whole day.  I got some of the laptop set up but it turns out they were never told what software we needed so it was 2 days before we could get software to read MS Office.  Everything we did for 10 years was office.  We've had 4 conference calls this week.  Everyday is a new issue.  Back with ADT me and another tech were senior techs with extra responsibility.  By Tuesday we doing the same thing for the new company.  But we are still trying to figure out a lot and in some cases we get less money.  The insurance isn't as great and will cost us more out of pocket.  We have to front expenses then get our money back after.  That will hurt in the short term.

It's a whole new paperwork setip that doesn't work with the way CC does things.  They've already reprogrammed the system twice snce Monday.  They lost a bunch of techs with bad driving records so now some of the techs are doubling there work load.  This will be a huge mess for the short term.  Unfortunately, when summer hits it becomes project season and our workload triples anyway.  This will be a horrible summer at work.

I've tried keeping up online but some days have been too much.  And T- ball practice starts soon for Philip; so more time outside.

So here's what's happening at work.  Before June 1, 2005 I was at Circuit City as a service technician fixing alarm, registers and whatever else they threw at us.  On June 1, 2005 at 8am I was with CC.  At 9am I was with ADT.  What happened was CC decided that they didn't need us anymore because they were getting a new register system from IBM.  IBM said they would fix everything.  Then they found out what we did.  So they hired ADT to do everything but the new registers.  ADT found out what was needed and hired all the technicians from CC.  So on 6/1/05 at 9 am I became an ADT employee.  Well, if you go to a Circuit City you will probably not see the new registers; only about 1/6 of the stores got done in 3 years.  So now ADT decided that they had enough of Circuit City and sold us to another company.  We found out on 4/16 that on 5/5 we are with the new company.  So until then we have tons of things to do.  So far 4 conference calls in 2 days.  We have inventory of our trucks to do, we have a drug test and all the paper work to get hired by the new place to do by next week Wednesday.  Then we have to meet the new bosses and get new vans, transfer inventory.   It will be a long month to get through.

For those that are used to my 5 am comments tomorrow I will not be around. I'll be on the road to travel half way across the state of New York.

I'll be back.
